Five unhurried days at the foot of Kilimanjaro – no park fees, no crowds, and almost every dollar spent with local families, guides and farmers. Perfect on its own, or before a climb or safari. Every night is in Moshi, so you unpack once.

Your days, step by step

  1. Day 1 – Arrive
    Meet & greet at Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO); 45-minute transfer to Moshi. Rest, welcome dinner and trip briefing.
    Overnight: Moshi (homestay or hotel)
  2. Day 2 – Materuni & Moshi market
    Morning waterfall hike and Chagga coffee ceremony (40 min drive). Local lunch, then an afternoon walk through Moshi’s central market.

  3. Day 3 – Machame cultural tour
    Full day in Machame village (1 hr drive): farms, waterfall, school and a traditional lunch cooked by a local family.

  4. Day 4 – Chemka hot springs
    Slow morning, then swim in the warm pools of Chemka (1 hr drive). Optional Tanzanian cooking class in the evening.

  5. Day 5 – Depart
    Breakfast and transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport – or carry on to a safari or climb.

Travelling with friends? Share the cost

Prices are per person and drop as your group grows, because you share the vehicle, guide and fixed fees.

  • One person pays: choose your group size and set the quantity to the number of travellers.
  • Everyone pays their own share: each traveller books one place with the same group size and the same Group name – we link you together.

Park fees explained

We quote foreign non-resident rates with 18% VAT. Road safaris to the Serengeti cross the Ngorongoro Conservation Area on the way in and out, so the Ngorongoro fee is paid twice, plus the Serengeti fee for each 24 hours and $295 per vehicle to descend into the crater. All of this is already in your price.

Booking notice, payments and cancellation

Book ahead: safaris, Kilimanjaro climbs and packages at least 21 days before the start date; day trips at least 3 days before. Later bookings are welcome, but at short notice we cannot guarantee availability or every detail.

Payment: pay in full, or 30% to confirm and the balance in 1 or 2 instalments by invoice. The full balance is due 60 days before you travel.

Cancellation – safaris, climbs and packages: 60+ days before: 30% charge · 30–59 days: 50% · 15–29 days: 75% · 14 days or less: 100%. Day trips: full refund (minus card fees) 3+ days before · 50% at 24–72 hours · no refund under 24 hours. Date changes more than 60 days before are free once.

Visa, insurance and what to bring

Most visitors from the USA, Canada, the UK and Europe need a Tanzania e-visa. The compulsory Tanzania inbound insurance is included on packages. Bring neutral clothing, a warm layer, sun protection, binoculars and a refillable water bottle.
